12 Days in Paris: Salon du Collectionneur & Porte-bouquets

The Salon du Collectionneur is a very high-end antique show. It was being held at the Grand Palias. The Grand Palais is a fantastic venue for an exhibit. The high, glass ceilings are spectacular in their own right.

This show features museum quality pieces – so with credit card firmly stuffed in my wallet, we enjoyed the opportunity to view a vast array of quality antiques. The show included three special exhibits – one on timepieces, another on prehistoric dinosaurs and rocks, while the third was a collection of antique Porte-bouquets (bouquet holders) .

This last exhibit was beautiful and fascinating. These 19th century flower holders were the finishing touch for any refined lady in the late 1800s. (These are alternately called “tussie mussies”, “posey holders” and “bouquet holders.”) This private Bilgi Kenber Collection of Paris has 130 pieces that range from simple woven wicker to exquisite jeweled beauties. The collection is shown in its entirety online. Below I have photographed some of our favorites.

Tip:

The 2009 San Francisco Fall Antiques Show will be held October 29nd to November 1st in the Festival Pavilion, Fort Mason Center, San Francisco. The show features approximately seventy dealers from across the United States and Europe, offering for sale an extraordinary range of fine and decorative arts. A definite “gotta see” event.
